Meet Henry

We hand raised a local pigeon, found with his nest on the pavement at our local Shopright Checkers store

Henry grew to be a fully grown bird, he was quite free and flew around the house and into my worshop, all on his own and as he felt the need.

Henry at work.

Henry in the office. He eventually flew off one day and that was the last we saw of Henry, we hope he has a mate and is safe.

Rufford Old Hall, Lancashire, England

This famous land mark home was the home of the Hesketh family, its a monument to the past and well worth a visit next time your in the Liverpool area. It really does look exactly like this picture.

Find more on the house here

I am always fascinated by this amazing art work, its a Briar or Bramble but carved from a single block of wood. Those leaves are even carved underneath! Last time I saw it, they had it hanging on the wall next to that long upstairs window and to the left hand side.

It has also been displayed as a table top piece, so ask when your inside, there are stewards on each floor to advise you. Most work for free for the National Trust.

How hard can that be.

We get visitors

We get them all the time but one of these is rather special.

Ray was my employer way back in 1970 or so, he was the agent to Lockwood Homes, thats a lock in panel house construction, still made today but seems expensive now when we have a Rand currency that is so weak.

Ray and Nadia called on me to discuss a kit to a boat named a Grey Seal by Iain Oughtred, their version will be extended to make it 28ft long. I have only seen Ray once since finishing the build on the third home I helped build for him, which was around forty two (42) years back! Ray told me he was responsable for building over 120 Lockwood homes in South Africa.

Lockwood? check them out here  http://www.lockwood.co.nz/  I have recently been in touch with them.

Drumbeat Charters of Hout Bay

Any visit to the Cape Town area probably means you will go up Table Mountain to take in the views, while your up there look far to your left, thats the direction of Hout Bay and Drumbeat Charters.

The all aluminium Alexander Simonis designed Drumbeat 2, its a special boat and was designed for safety while taking trippers into Seal Island (dyker island) you wont quite touch the seals but you sure get close!

Hout Bay, Seal Island is just below the large pointed cliff on the left of the picture.
Both pictures are taken from the Drumbeat Charters web site.

We meet the Sheriff

In this case we are talking about the Sheriff of Simonstown, he left his guns and horse at home and arrived by car, being a very neat and economical Smart car, smart guy, as petrol prices went to a record high only the night before.

The guy was really organised, he explained the terms and rules of the auction sale and even told us there were no gohost buyers in our midst.

Our interest was in the plot of land behind the sheriff, about 780 square meters, did we win, in a word no!
